Mail (MX) Server Survey

| Report Description |
 |
This report is a comprehensive report involving all mail
servers we know of visible on the internet. For each domain in our
conventional web server survey, we also determine the list of mail servers
that provide inbound mail services (via MX record lookups). Each unique
mail server is connected to once each month, where we wait for the
server's "220 " message which usually accompanies a banner revealing
the server software being used.
| Basic Response Statistics |
|
When connecting to an MX server, a number of different responses are
possible. The remote server may not be up and running or completely
refusing connections, it may not respond back with a "220 " line
in the amount of time we wait, nor will it always provide a banner that
identifies the type of software running.
