Vulnerability Insight: The flaws are due to: - error in the 'SfnLOGONNOTIFY()' function in 'win32k.sys' when handling window messages. This can be exploited to cause a kernel crash by sending a specially crafted '4Ch' message to the 'DDEMLEvent' window. - error in the 'SfnINSTRING()' function in 'win32k.sys' when handling window messages. This can be exploited to cause a kernel crash by sending a specially crafted '18Dh' message to the 'DDEMLEvent' window. Vulnerability Impact: Successful exploitation will allow attackers to cause Denial of service. Affected Software/OS: - Microsoft Windows XP SP3 and prior - Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4 and prior - Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 and prior Solution: No known solution was made available for at least one year since the disclosure of this vulnerability. Likely none will be provided anymore. General solution options are to upgrade to a newer release, disable respective features, remove the product or replace the product by another one.
