Category: | Ubuntu Local Security Checks |
Title: | Ubuntu USN-516-1 (xfsdump) |
Summary: | NOSUMMARY |
Description: | Description: The remote host is missing an update to xfsdump announced via advisory USN-516-1. A security issue affects the following Ubuntu releases: Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Ubuntu 6.10 Ubuntu 7.04 This advisory also applies to the corresponding versions of Kubuntu, Edubuntu, and Xubuntu. Details follow: Paul Martin discovered that xfs_fsr creates a temporary directory with insecure permissions. This allows a local attacker to exploit a race condition in xfs_fsr to read or overwrite arbitrary files on xfs filesystems. Solution: The problem can be corrected by upgrading your system to the following package versions: Ubuntu 6.06 LTS: xfsdump 2.2.30-1ubuntu0.1 Ubuntu 6.10: xfsdump 2.2.38-1ubuntu0.6.10.1 Ubuntu 7.04: xfsdump 2.2.38-1ubuntu0.7.04.1 In general, a standard system upgrade is sufficient to affect the necessary changes. http://www.securityspace.com/smysecure/catid.html?in=USN-516-1 Risk factor : Medium CVSS Score: 4.4 |
