Title: | Pi-hole Ad-Blocker FTL < 5.8 DNS Cache Poisoning Vulnerability |
Summary: | The Pi-hole Ad-Blocker FTL component is prone to a DNS cache; poisoning vulnerability. |
Description: | Summary: The Pi-hole Ad-Blocker FTL component is prone to a DNS cache poisoning vulnerability. Vulnerability Insight: The Pi-hole Ad-Blocker FTL component is using 'dnsmasq' which is affected by the following flaw: When configured to use a specific server for a given network interface, dnsmasq uses a fixed port while forwarding queries. An attacker on the network, able to find the outgoing port used by dnsmasq, only needs to guess the random transmission ID to forge a reply and get it accepted by dnsmasq. This flaw makes a DNS Cache Poisoning attack much easier. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to data integrity. Affected Software/OS: Pi-hole Ad-Blocker FTL version prior to 5.8. Solution: Update to version 5.8 or later. CVSS Score: 4.3 CVSS Vector: AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:N/I:P/A:N |
