Description: | Summary: Sybase Adaptive Server is prone to format string vulnerability. Vulnerability Insight: The flaw is due to a format string error within the Backup Server component when creating a log message. This can be exploited to cause the process to crash or corrupt memory via a specially crafted packet sent to TCP port 5001. Vulnerability Impact: Successful exploitation may allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application. Failed exploit attempts will cause a denial-of-service condition. Affected Software/OS: Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 15.5 and prior. Solution: No known solution was made available for at least one year since the disclosure of this vulnerability. Likely none will be provided anymore. General solution options are to upgrade to a newer release, disable respective features, remove the product or replace the product by another one.
