Test ID: | 1.3.6.1.4.1.25623.1.0.51570 |
Category: | Conectiva Local Security Checks |
Title: | Conectiva Security Advisory CLA-2001:406 |
Summary: | NOSUMMARY |
Description: | Description: The remote host is missing updates announced in advisory CLA-2001:406. xinetd is an alternative to the inetd superserver. Sebastian Krahmer from SuSe found an additional vulnerability in the xinetd package that was not addressed in the previous announcement. Internal string handling functions of xinetd do not properly handle length arguments of zero. This can lead to buffer overflows and arbitrary remote code execution. The xinetd package is not used by default in Conectiva Linux 6.0, therefore only users who explicitly changed the configuration of their services in order to use xinetd will be vulnerable. Solution: The apt tool can be used to perform RPM package upgrades by running 'apt-get update' followed by 'apt-get upgrade' http://www.securityspace.com/smysecure/catid.html?in=CLA-2001:406 http://distro.conectiva.com.br/atualizacoes/index.php?id=a&anuncio=000406 Risk factor : High |
