Kategorie: | Conectiva Local Security Checks |
Titel: | Conectiva Security Advisory CLA-2002:527 |
Zusammenfassung: | NOSUMMARY |
Beschreibung: | Description: The remote host is missing updates announced in advisory CLA-2002:527. Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming language. Zack Weinberg found[1] a vulnerability in the way the exevpe() method from the os.py module uses a temporary file name. A file which supposedly should not exist is created in a unsafe way and the method tries to execute it. The objective of such code is to discover what error the operating system returns in a portable way. This vulnerability affects all python versions and is fixed[2,3] in the python CVS repository (using a better approach). By exploiting this vulnerability a local attacker can execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running python code which uses the execvpe() method. Solution: The apt tool can be used to perform RPM package upgrades by running 'apt-get update' followed by 'apt-get upgrade' http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-dev/2002-August/027223.html http://python.org/sf/590294 http://python.org/sf/601077 http://distro.conectiva.com.br/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=6595&idioma=en http://www.securityspace.com/smysecure/catid.html?in=CLA-2002:527 http://distro.conectiva.com.br/atualizacoes/index.php?id=a&anuncio=002002 Risk factor : High |
